ALMANAC
The CLOBBER Almanac is a collection of stories, ideas and observations, accumulated through experience and time. A media archive to preserve and present the history of the brand.
DISPATCH 14
On 24th May, we held our first participation experience, HERD MENTALITY, in collaboration with our friends at Locker. At 8:30am, a crowd of 25 gathered in the empty car park. The early morning sun was beating down unusually heavy for May. Groups of four spread out across the concrete for the first workout: a combination of bike, ski and rowing intervals with laps of a one-mile mixed-terrain loop.
DISPATCH 13
Triskaidekaphobia (tris-kye-dek-uh-foh-bee-uh) is the irrational, intense fear or avoidance of the number 13, often rooted in Western cultural superstitions or religious traditions. Sufferers may experience anxiety, leading to the avoidance of the number in daily life. Some airlines skip the 13th row. If you suffer from this condition, please skip this Dispatch. For the rest of you normal people, here’s Dispatch 13.
DISPATCH 12
We’re no numerologists, but there’s something significant about the number twelve. A clock face. Months in a year. Apostles in Christianity. Inches in a foot. Eggs in a dozen. Olympians in Greek mythology. Notes in the chromatic scale. Edges of a cube. Jurors in a trial. Take from it what you will. For us, it means a year of Dispatches and that means a year of CLOBBER.
DISPATCH 11
Welcome to February. Four weeks on the nose of grim weather, short days and a mild chance of any socialising. In Dispatch 11, we catch up with Ollie Pride from Outsider’s Store over easy miles, coffee and pastries. Also included: a book recommendation that bucks the trend of typical running literature; a minute-by-minute breakdown of what happens inside the body when we knock back an espresso; five must-see movies that use lingo that’s close to our heart; and a self-taught London-based designer that’s making one-of-a-kind day packs.
DISPATCH 10
Happy new year and all that. In Dispatch 10, we reflect on the year gone and look forward to the year ahead. Also included: a training session with friend and gym owner, Harrison Edgson; British snooker legend Ronnie O’Sullivan’s relationship with running; grab a bite to eat in Notting Hill; and a feature on one of our favourite illustrators.
DISPATCH 9
We talk about the inspiration for the Chute Cap, ahead of its release this Friday. Also included: a catch up with Brad Martinez after his 50km race through rural Morocco; a must-read book recommendation for anyone into technical apparel; and a handful of British brands that we support and think you should too.
DISPATCH 8
In Dispatch 8, we're bringing together a few threads from the past month. A morning run with Kohh and Kyo from Tokyo-based run-club, Trackbeats; an update on what we've been working on behind the scenes; a closer look at the endurance mind of Lazarus Lake; and the Japanese philosophy of imperfection that's shaped how we think about design. We've also included a short piece on fabric selection and how it affects performance.
DISPATCH 7
A moment of reflection on why we started CLOBBER, the inside scoop from our favourite London bakery, Milk Run, and a brief history of ripstop fabric. We recap the final day of Jermaine Jones’s 34 marathons in 34 days and share key lessons from legendary Olympic weightlifting coach, Tudor Bompa.
DISPATCH 6
In Dispatch 6, we sit down with photographer and friend of the brand, Sam Davies for a new edition of Spit It Out. Also included: the moodpboard for our first long-sleeve top; lessons from a 99-year-old sushi master; a masterclass in advertising; and a book that cures pain.
DISPATCH 5
It feels like the world is running-obsessed at the minute (us included). It was actually on a recent Saturday long run that the idea for this month's Dispatch came to us: what if we dedicated the whole thing to the art - and obsession - of the run? Whether you're deep in marathon prep, building base miles, or just thinking about lacing up again, this one's for you.
DISPATCH 4
What's to come in Dispatch 4? We sit down with friend of the brand, Calum Andrews, for some quick-fire Q&A; share a tried-and-tested protocol for building strength; reflect on our first community training session; and geek out over concrete buildings.
DISPATCH 3
In Dispatch 3, we reflect on the earliest days of CLOBBER, demystify Zone 2 training, and share a must-read from our recent rotation. We spotlight a designer who masters the form-meets-function balance like no other, and sit down with friend of the brand, Brad Martinez, to talk footwear for crazy trail mileage.
DISPATCH 2
Two’s a streak. We share what we’ve been working on since the launch, offer some timeless training wisdom, reveal our favourite London spots from a post-run pastry, and pay our respects to a brand that’s spent nearly a century perfecting its craft.
DISPATCH 1
Since its inception, CLOBBER has been about creating something for those who share our respect for quality: of movement, of craft and of life. Through our Dispatches, we'll reveal the hidden parts of the brand story, shining a light on our sources of inspiration along the way.
